β-Glucan is a polysaccharide composed of D-glucose monomers linked by β-glycosidic bonds. β-Glucan has the functions of hypocholesterolemic, hypoglycemic, immunomodulatory, antitumor, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory[1].
In vitro, β-Glucan (1, 2.5, 5, 10 and 20μg/mL; 24h) inhibits SVCV infection in ZF4 cells[2]. β-Glucan (1, 10, 100 and 200µg/ml; 48h) had a positive effect on increasing tumoricidal activity of macrophages[3].
In vivo, β-Glucan (0.025g/100g dry diet; 0-14 days) enhanced resistance of zebrafish against spring viraemia of carp virus (SVCV)[2]. In a mouse orthotopic pancreatic cancer model, β-Glucan (1mg/mice; once; i.p.) in combination with Irreversible electroporation (IRE) reduced local and distant tumor burden and prolonged survival[4].

Preparation Method |
ZF4 cells were treated with β-Glucan (1, 2.5, 5, 10, 20μg/mL) for 24h. Then 0.1 MOI SVCV was added and incubated at 22°C for 1h. Infected ZF4 cells monolayers were then washed, fresh medium added, and plates further incubated. At 24 hours after infection, SVCV replication in ZF4 cells was evaluated by qPCR measuring the expression of SVCV N protein. ZF4 cells infected with SVCV but not treated with β-Glucan is a polysaccharide composed of D-glucose monomers linked by β-glycosidic bonds. were used as control. |

Preparation Method |
On day 0, 0.1×10⁶ KPC cells were orthotopically implanted into the pancreas of the mice. On day 7 after tumor implantation, the mice were treated with a single intraperitoneal injection of β-Glucan (1mg/mouse) or PBS control. On day 14, sham surgery or IRE ablation was performed. On day 24 after tumor implantation, representative images of orthotopic pancreatic KPC tumors were obtained from the control and different treatment groups. |
