5α-Cholestan-3β-ol (5α-Cholestanol) is a natural sterol compound present in animal tissues, certain plants, and microorganisms, and it is also one of the important metabolites of cholesterol in the body[1]. 5α-Cholestan-3β-ol is often used to explore cholesterol metabolism pathways, the structural functions of cell membranes, and the mechanisms of related diseases[2]. Changes in the level of 5α-Cholestan-3β-ol are associated with a variety of metabolic diseases (such as familial hypercholesterolemia and cholestasis), and the detection of its content can serve as one of the potential indicators for evaluating cholesterol metabolism disorders[3]; meanwhile, 5α-Cholestan-3β-ol is also used as a standard substance for developing separation and detection methods of cholesterol and sterol compounds (e.g., high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry)[4].
