Preparation Method

Male mice were injected α-Zearalenol intraperitoneally, then cage with sexually mature untreated female mice, tested for pregnancy the next day, and finally evaluated for semen quality and fertility.

Dosage form

0,25,50 and 75mg/kg once a day for 7 days; i.p.

Applications

The proportion of malformed sperm increased significantly in the A-Zol-treated male mice compared with the control group, while the proportion of live sperm decreased significantly and the acrosome integrity rate of sperm decreased.

α-Zearalenol (α-zol) is a Mycotoxin with high affinity for the estrogen receptors (ER), α-Zearalenol is the derivative of zearalenone (ZEN), causes reproductive disorders in animals, due to its xenoestrogenic effects[1-3].

α-Zearalenol (0.001-10 µM; 24-72 hours) induces an increase of cell viability on MCF-7 cells mainly after 72 h of treatment whereas it is slightly cytotoxic on MDA-MB231 cells[4]. α-Zearalenol at low concentrations (10-8-10-9 M;4days) stimulated T47D cell growth[5]. α-Zearalenol(10-10, 10-8 and 10-6 M; 24, 48 and 72 h) was able to increase the protein biosynthesis as well as the lipid metabolism in MCF-7 cells, and, hence, to induce an estrogen positive breast cancer progression[6].

α-Zearalenol (0,25,50 and 75mg/kg once a day for 7 days; i.p.) increased the proportion of malformed sperm, decreased the proportion of live sperm, and decreased acrosome integrity of sperm. α-Zearalenol has a significant harmful effect on the reproductive system of male mice [7].

α-Zearalenol(α-玉米赤烯醇)是一种对雌激素受体 (ER) 具有高亲和力的霉菌毒素, α-Zearalenol 是 zearalenone (ZEN) 的衍生物,由于其异种雌激素效应可引起动物的生殖障碍[1-3]。
